Before anybody gets smart and points out that the holiday ballet is already in 3-D, take a look at the trailer below.

The Nutcracker 3D” features Elle Fanning as Mary ( essentially Clara 2.0), Nathan Lane as Uncle Albert, John Turturro as the Rat King and Shirley Henderson as the voice of the Nutcracker. The film, released Nov. 24 in select theaters, takes place in 1920 Vienna and follows the gist of the familiar storyline. A little girl named Mary receives a very special doll from her beloved Uncle Albert … and it’s through the 3-D looking-glass from there.

“The Nutcracker 3D,” based on the story that inspired Tchaikovsky to compose his iconic score, features eight new songs written by Sir Tim Rice, the Oscar-winning lyricist behind “The Lion King,” “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Evita.”

Purists beware: this ain’t your momma’s Nutcracker.
